Bermuda Triangle Legend?

Question

If it is methane gas(like someone else said) then why would amelia earhart dissapear over it?She flew over it in a plane?

Is the mystery solved?

Is it real?

Legend is right. There is no substance to it. There are no more unexplained disappearances in that area than any other random area on Earth.

The others are correct that Amelia Earhart disappeared over the South Pacific and the "Bermuda Triangle" is in the Mid-Atlantic.

My personal theory has to do with the earth's magnetism.  The earth, as I'm sure you know, is a giant magnet and the poles do, indeed, "switch" periodically.  The older  (non-GPS) navagation equipment relied on the earth's magnetism and (I suspect) the triangle is in a location where the earth's changing magnetism messes with the planes/ships navigation equipment causing them to get "lost".

Just my own fanciful theory.  I have absolutely nothing to back it up.

The Bermuda Triangle was started by a guy named Berlitz who made a fortune with hi phony tales in his books. He's been debunked many time but people like to believe in the boogy man.

Amelia Earhart disappeared over the South Pacific.  The Bermuda Triangle is in the Atlantic Ocean.  

It is real that an above average amount of planes and ships have disappeared in this area.  There are a lot of theories why this has happened.  The mystery has not been solved so far.

supposedly that the legend is true about the triangle but Amelia didn't get lost in the triangle it was over the southern pacific but some people do say that there was either some one else in the cockpit or she sprung a gas leak and crashed and burned

Amelia Earhart was lost in the south Pacific, so this doesn't concern her. The truth is her copilot, who she depended on for navigation, was drinking frequently during the trip and was unfit to fly, so she probably was lost because of him.

As for the bermuda triangle, studies have been done that show that methane gas coming out of the ocean bed could cause a person to plunge headfirst into the ocean without realizing it. Methane is less dense than air and as a result it confuses the altimeter, which tell you how high you are in the air. It makes you think you are rising and causes the pilot to fly DOWNWARD to level off, causing him to crash. While this does not explain all the dissapearances in the Bermuda triangle, it is a scientific theory with real weight.

An additional theory is that the Bermuda triangle contains a 'rough spot' in the earth's magnetic field which confuses navigation equipment.
