while camping at mackerricher state park (mendocino county, CA) we saw quite a few of these berries, and I haven't been able to identify them. They are a dark purple color (two berries to a stem), and they have two bright red sepals. here is a picture at villagephotos: http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-4/988348/unknownberry.JPG
