Vodka.  Many options, martini's are endless and mxing with vodka is easy -- different soda's orange juice, pineapple juice, tomato juice etc.

I have to agree with Sangria though- it's so perfect for summer, you can get away with a less expensive wine and it tastes great with BBQ and appetizers- go for it.
