    Some Candle Facts

U.S. retail sales of candles are estimated at approximately

$2 billion annually, excluding sales of candle accessories.

Candles are used in 7 out of 10 U.S. households.

Manufacturer surveys show that more than 95% of all candles are purchased by women.

Votives, container candles and pillars are currently the most popular types of candles with American consumers.

Candle industry research indicates that the most important factors affecting candle sales are scent, color, cost and shape.

The retail price of a candle generally ranges from approximately 50¢ for a votive to $75 for a large pillar candle. Highly unusual or embellished artisan candles can be $200 or more.

Two-thirds of candle purchasers say they use candles once a week or more often.

  2. 1.  A dinner of some sort, spaghetti is always good, with a Chineses auction also.  One set price for the dinner and maybe 10 Chinese auction tickets. Then charge more for extra CA tickets.

    2.  Garage sale. Sell hot dogs, pop and chips for one price.  Check around, our animal shelter gets rolls and hot dogs donated from local grocery stores, etc.  Put up ads in the grocery stores, etc. stating you need used and gently used items for a garage sale.  I'm assuming you are a not-for-profit organization.

    3. A dog walk with prizes for the biggest, littlest, oldest, youngest, etc. dog.  Prizes for the dog who raised the most pledges for walking.  All the prizes we get are donated from local companies.

    4.  Have a haunted barn, house, etc. at Halloween.

    5.  A theme tray sale.

    6.  A car wash.  A dog wash.

    7.  Have a raffle.  We had a few Buffalo Bills items donated to us by calling the Bills headquarters.  We raffled them off and made a lot of money.  Someone with a computer printed up the tickets to save us some money and volunteers just sold them.

Whatever you do, have other little fun things to do that will raise some money.

Sell a balloon for $1 each and before you blow them up, place a piece of paper in it that corresponds to a prize.  The kids get to pop the balloon and claim their prize.   Get things at the dollar store or from that magazine Oriental Trading. They have good prices and you get things by the dozen, etc.
