Best Lawn Fertilizer ?

it is August. Summer is coming to an end shortly. =(

But I was wondering what is the best fertilizer to use on my grass and when?? (it is yellow, we just moved in)

Do I lay seed the same time as fertilizer???

Any lawn tips are helpful!

Where do you live and what type of grass do you have?  Need to know before an intelligent answer can be given..

Generally if you will be laying seed down, you will use a starter fertilizer such as a 18-24-12.

Also check your pH level and see if you need to add any lime. New seedlings do not fair well in acidic soils.

After appying lime if needed, broadcast your seeds. Then apply your fertilizer. Make sure the seeds get good soil contact by roughing up the soil. If there is still some hot days in your future, you may want to cover the seed lightly with a compost, a seed mulch or straw to insure the seeds stay moist for germination.

If you want to use an organic seed starter instead of fertilizer, use fish emulsion.
