Best backpacker hostels in New Zealand?

Can anyone recommend some good party hostel around New Zealand? Somewhere with a good atmosphere, with a fun common area, like a chill out room or bar. Doesn't necessarily need to have a bar, could just have pub crawls or other organized events...

check out YHA for the more relaxed scene - plus good beds and hostels...
