I'm headed to Costa Rica for vacation in two weeks. I really want to bring back some coffee for me and others. We're staying at Paradisus Playa Conchal, so where's the best place in Santa Cruz to get some? I don't really care about a plantation tour, just that I get GOOD coffee. Thanks!

  1. Cafe Rey is the classic coffee brand in CR but now there are many others but in any super market you will get Cafe Rey really cheap. Just don't get it from a souvenir shop because that's a rip off.

  2. you can find good coffee in any market and much more cheap, the gift or souvenirs stores are very expensive, the best brands are Britt, Cafe Rey and almost all are of high quality coffee ir our speciality, any brand you buy can be good

  3. Guanacaste (the province where you are at)  is not a coffee producing region (there is one coffee co-op near Tileran about 4 hours drive from Santa Cruz).  However, gift shops in major tourist areas carry good coffees.  Coffee Britt is ubiquitous but there are many good local brands.

  4. You know, it's too bad you won't be coming to San Jose, more specifically, to the Mercado Central or Central market.  There is a shop on the northwest corner of the market where they roast and grind their own coffee.  It comes from the best coffee growing regions in the country.  I especially like the Peabody variety from Dota.  It is only $10 per kilo, or $4 per pound more or less.  I don't know the name of the place, but you can't mistake the smell.  Let your nose guide you.  They will pack your coffee as a gift to take back to the US or for personal consumption.
