  1. hmmm ebay.com

  2. An Eastwood Airline. I've been playing for 25 years and have a collection of mid-range to expensive guitars.

I bought an Airline to be a slide guitar and it has turned into my No. 1 performing guitar for the last year. A great rock guitar - two humbuckers that are wound really hot. The 'buckers and a chambered body give it great sustain.

Bonus: It looks really cool. I got the red 2P DLX (ala Jack White). When I play at open jams, everyone wants to play it.

You can hear me play on myspace linked below.

You can't wrong with an Epiphone. I have an Epiphone Casino that is nice blues guitar. The only thing about the Epiphones vs. Gibsons is the Epiphones feed back a lot more and you have to keep your hand on the strings when it's turned up.

The Eastwoods seem a little more solid than Epiphones and come with refinements you don't see on lower-price guitars like binding on the neck, real pearl inlays and a hard case.

You can get a faded (unlaquered) SG for a nice price - and it's a Gibson. My buddy plays one on tour - I threw his myspace in too - he's playing the faded SG on "Be Alone"

OK, I just gave you an answer that comes in a little higher than the $400 - you can get the Airline and the SG for 600-700. But an Epiphone is going to be 500-550 and those two guitars I mentioned are pro-quality musician instruments for about 150 more.

My 2 cents. Keep rocking and good luck.

ADD: I guess someone thumbs-downed me for giving higher priced guitar recommendations. So, let me add that there are hundreds of cheap guitars to chose from and for rock/hard rock, an Epiphone Les Paul is a good choice.

You can always get a more expensive guitar later, but keep in mind the more expensive ones are easier to play on.

One of my pet peeves is people, buying guitars for beginners that a pro would have a hard time sounding good on. High action, bad intonation, fret buzz, etc... it makes it frustrating while the learning curve is at its steepest and some people quit.

My last tip -- as long as you aren't buying a higher-end collectible guitar, used will save you a lot of money.

Bottom Line: Get the best guitar you can afford and stay with it! It's a lifelong journey you will love forever.

  3. go to ebay

  4. Ibanez is better than epiphone. Ibanez sounds GREAT for metal and hard rock. I have an Ibanez GRX20. ITS AMAZING!!! AND THE PRICE!!! WOW

    http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez-GRX20...

excellent reviews, Quality is that of a $300+ guitar based on reviews and my opinion

  5. My vote is washburn hands down!!! they are the best you can buy for the money. I have owned several in my lifetime and I have loved them all. Come to think of it I still have my washburn bass, I payed a little over 150 for it brand new( special deal at musicians friend) and I love it just as much as some of the other bass guitars that Ive owned. Go washburn man, you wont regret it I promise.

PS. I played metal too, It will rock.

  6. go to harmony central.com then go to the electric sight then to reviews youll find out everything you need to know, anyone buying a guitar thats not brand jaded needs to see this sight
