Best laptop for college freshman ?

I want something that can last (good performance and does not give much trouble) also must be kinda light/portable w/ wifi, I will be carrying it around a lot and I'm willing to spend around $1400 if the laptop is worth it in the long run. Right now I am thinking about Lenovo/Mac but not really sure. The lenovo tablet X61 looks great but many say they have some defects. Should I go for the X61 tablet ? Or what else would you suggest ?

  1. I am telling you now go for the Mac. Macs are great for college. I would go for the MacBook because that's what alot of people get for college. Now I know its over $1400 but its worth it. You can check out the refurbished page and it might be less. Visit Http://www.store.apple.com for the refurbished page. Its on the bottom left corner. But I say get a Mac because they last you long, great performance and they don't give you trouble like vista will. The lenovo will come with vista and vista is just a mess. Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is one of the best Operating Systems. I think its better then Microsoft Windows XP. But Macs are great for college and designing to.  Vista I could list all day about whats wrong with it and Mac I could list 48 Hours about why getting one. If you know vista or Microsoft then you will expect 100 time better with Apple. And if you buy a Mac BUY the Apple Care. It will come in handy. It covers anything that happens that YOU do. If you drop it will not cover but if the internet browser stops working or if the key stops typing then it covers it. If you don't know how to make this they will help you. So get Apple Care. I just got me a MacBook Pro and I love it. So I would go for the MacBook and if you want something lighter then the MacBook go for the MacBook Air. And dont forget to check out the refurbished page. If you have any questions you can email me @ CaptComputer@live.com and I know I really did not cover why not to get vista but if you would like me to I can. Just email me!

  2. you can shop all of the latest laptops at this site, and get discounts, be sure to bookmark this page so you can go back to it later.

  3. Unless your going to school for graphic design, you may not want to get a Mac now, as most colleges use windows based computers and programs. I'd go with one of these, also stay clear of dell computers.

  4. Before you buy ANYTHING check with your college...most now recommend a specific brand and model, and they provide tech service/troubleshooting...

My niece just started at William & Mary, and they gave her the the info and also have a deal with the company to sell them to students at a discounted rate.

Even if your college doesn't have a similar program where they require a specific computer, they very well might have a deal where you can get a computer at a significant discount.

Now that you are a student, always ask if there is a student discount...many places will give you one if you show your ID.

    Happy Matriculating!
