Best miniDV camcorder?

I'm looking for a video camera, and I have an iBook, so I need something that will work well with iMovie. I know I want a miniDV and it must be firewire compatible. What should I be looking for in a camera, especially if I am entering into a film major in college? I want something with good stabilization, zoom, and fairly inexpensive (Under $300 hopefully).

The best is Canon HV20 and HV30

Canon ZR800, ZR900, ZR930. These all have a mic-in jack (but no manual audio control - this is important only in REALLY LOUD or really low audio environments.

The least expensive camcorders with a mic-in jack and manual audio control are the Canon HV20, HV30 , Sony HDR-HC7 and HC9.
