In your opinion what are the best opening moves to make? Assume you are white. I know it depends on the person you are playing but let's say you are playing someone of average ability. I guess what i'm asking is what is the strongest opening to use.

  1. My favorite opening is the Giuoco Piano. It is an aggressive center based opening designed to utilize some of your stronger pieces early. I have won many times using this opening. I also like the Ruy Lopez. Slightly more subtle than the Piano, but every bit as good.

  2. What game are you talking about?

  3. the strongest opening is english defence, dutch defence, queens gambit,e4 opening,

    for black:french defense,sicilian defence,kings gambit,and knight opening.

  4. I would assume you're talking about Chess? As far as I'm aware, games like checkers and backgammon and Risk don't have openings, not in a way that they're given a term.

Anyway, if you are talking about Chess, for white e4 is generally accepted as being "the best" first move, because it opens up lines for White's queen and bishop, while still allowing both knights to develop, and also ensuring that white can castle in two moves (after moving the Bishop and knight out of the way).

For Black it really depends. Against e4 Black can play e5, which is a kings pawn opening and can go into many different openings from there (e.g. the Italian, the Guico Piano, the Ruy Lopez). Also, Black can play c5, which is the sicilian defense.  Against 1.d4 Black will usually play 1. ...d5 or 1. ...Nf6.

These are some generally common openings, but to say one is best? I suppose that's hard. It really depends on what type of player you are, what your ideas for the game are, how much you've studied a particular opening, what your opponent does, and how you'd like the game to progress.

  5. When I have the white pieces,I use 1.d4 exclusively. It hits two central squares(c5 and e5)and is more aggressive once all the pieces have been developed. Many people prefer 1.e4 because its an early aggressive move, and leads to sharp tactical games.
