  1. Malia off peak season, its a good base. I stayed there in May and the buses either way into Heraklion or the other way to Spinalonga (where the book The Island was about) were great and cheap. The rep gave us a timetable too. The beaches in Malia are nice and if you go visit Parthenis Palace Hotel right on the beach. We stayed in their apartments (cheap and very nice) but went to the pool at the hotel every day as our pool was not very big and the music was terrible, and we wanted to relax so went to the hotel pool. Too expensive to stay but anyone can use the facilities if you bought a drink etc. Its luxury.

A day into Agios Nikolaos (Ag Nik) Elounda and Spinalonga are well worth the visit. Ag Nik harbour very pretty, Elounda where you get the ferry to the island is a nice little town too. If you do go to that part of the Crete read the book first.

Spinalonga very interesting. Would go back to Crete loved it.

We did not book with Thomas Cook but from the web and then found out that our cheap holiday was in fact with them! It was dearer with them direct!!

  2. Stallis is a good place to stay in Crete.

Very nice and only a short walk from Malia so away from the nightlife but there if you want it.

Theres lots to do in Crete, you'l have a great time.

  3. Go to any part of the coast. It is a lovely place to stay for a holiday.
