I have one betta in a two and a half gallon tank, and he has ich. I know that aquarium salt kills the ich, so i want to know how much salt a betta can take. I don't want to "oversalt" his tank and have him end up dying. Please help!!

  1. First of all, it's ICK. That would be small white spots all over his body. You need to go to like petsmart and get a little de-icker =] that's your best bet, rather than killing him by over or under salting

  2. just do a partial water change and use ick medicine. or do a partial water change every day. keep the tank in the dark so there isnt any light in there until the fish is well. water changes and darkness can also cure ick. I would not use salt if I didnt know exactly what I was doing good luck.

  3. he might just be sick

  4. The exact amount of salt is extremely variable, and there is no specific amount (which should be in weight, as volume depends on grain size and compaction).  I would much rather suggest an Ich (OR Ick) medication like Quick Cure or Rid Ich, which are both a great mixture of malachite green and formalin (when treating with malachite green, keep the tank dark, as it degrades with exposure to light).  There are copper based medications as well (Aquarisol, Organicure, Cupramine, Coppersafe, etc.), but these are slightly more risky in small tanks than Quick Cure (1 drop per gallon).

  5. just use 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt and please remember to change the water before you put salt. after that, make sure you change the water everyday to prevent it from happening in the future.
