Question:

Betta might have fin rot?

My half-moon betta might have fin rot, but I am not sure. The strange thing is, it is only affecting my betta's tail and no other fins. His tail looks like its been ripped or chewed up by something, and the tips are not transparent nor are they black. By the way, he is in a tank all by himself so no other fish were nipping at his fins or anything like that. Could this be fin rot, even though the edges aren't black, or do you think he tail might have got snagged on something like a plant?

  1. it could be

    1. fin rot, it the edges dont always look clear or black

    2. he got his tail caught in a plant and had it ripped

    3. he chewed his own tail (yes, bettas do this and it is more common in halfmoons)

whatever it is, it is still like an open wound and it is at risk of infection so keep the water at tope quality and you might want to add stress coat and if it is fin rot, add antibiotic. Even if it is nor fin rot now, when the tail eventually becomes infected, it will rot so it will turn into fin rot.

  2. female bettas have that commonly, it should be that way for most of its life unless it grows bacck
