French is spoken by more people and probably more common.  There are also diplomatic jobs that require french.

I would say French is better, just because it's a more useful language since it's spoken in many places, like Canada (Quebec), Switzerland and several African countries speak it too; not to mention France obviously, and there are other countries too.

Plus, with an English background, it's easier to learn French than Russian because many words are similar.

French.  If nothing else, it will teach you more English as many of our words are derived from French.  In both cases, you would have to learn grammar which is more difficult in Russian than in French.  French is also written in the Latin Alphabet while Russian in written in Cyrillic.
