Bike won't turn over...?

Question

1983 KZ750 LTD. It's got a brand new battery and will crank and crank, but won't turn over.

It was running up until a couple of weeks ago when the battery went dead and I discovered it had the wrong battery in it.

I don't want to pay to have it trucked to the only shop in town that works on older bikes, so in terms of troubleshooting, what's next? It's getting gas, plugs are good, brand new battery...?

When you are turning the bike over does it smell like gas after awhile, if not it could be a fuel delivery issue, maybe even as simple as not having any gas or the peacock is closed.  

The first guy is right about checking for spark.

Well, for starters 'it wont turn over' means that the bike wont wind when you hit the starter.

What you are actually saying is that it will turn over, it just wont fire up and start.

When you changed the battery, did you reconnect all the wires to it and are they all connecting properly, and firmly?

It sounds like a spark issue, so, pull the plug wire off, take a spark plug out and connect the plug to the wire again. Rest the plug against the motor of the bike, dont touch it, and get someone to wind the bike over, so you can look and see if there is a spark there. If there isnt, you know that is the problem.
