I want to start biking to work, about 16 mi total. I carried clothes etc in my backpack before, but I am looking to attach some baskets to the back or just curious what others use for commuting. Thanks.

  1. i just ordered a rack (that goes over the rear wheel) and a trunk (the pack that attaches to the rack) all from nashbar.com. now i wont have to use a backpack. head lights are graet and tail lights are great. i have several reflectors. bright clothing is great too. look into handlebar bags to carry other gear. check out panniers to store more stuff. so far, i am going to try the rack and the trunk, hopefully that will carry all i need. and good job commuting, i am trying to do it more, but it is tiring (24 miles round trip) and michigan weather is not always cooperative. have fun, be safe

  2. I keep soap, shampoo, deoderant, towel and an extra pair of shoes at work so I don't have to always carry them. I bought a back pack designed for cycle commuting a number of years ago that I really like. The back pack opens up completely so I can lay clothes flat in there. There are two side pockets for shoes as well. Then there are two pockets in front, one closed and one vented.

I hang my cycling clothes up so they dry during the day so I don't have to put on wet cycling shorts in the evening.
