Bills replace Edwards at quarterback again
This is all very familiar, somehow.  On Monday, Bills' head coach Chan Gailey announced that Ryan Fitzpatrick will start in place of Trent Edwards against the Patriots next week.
"We're looking for a spark," Gailey said. "We're looking for a something that gives us a new look, a new thought process, some new play on the field. We're looking for the right combination, and we haven't found that yet."
In two games, Edwards combined to go 29 of 42 for 241 yards passing with a touchdown and two interceptions, while being sacked seven times en route to a combined 17 points for the Bills.
Gailey refused to place all the blame at Edwards' feet, but wouldn't rule out making the switch a permanent one, saying that Fitzpatrick would, "take the reins and see where that takes us."
This is not the first time Fitzpatrick has stepped into the starter's role midway through a season.  Fitzpatrick was 5-4 last season in the games he played the majority of, winning five of the six games Buffalo managed to win in the season.
Viewed as more decisive in the pocket, Fitzpatrick is also more adept at throwing the deep ball.  The Bills' three passes over 50 yards last season were all completed by Fitzpatrick.
This latest benching represents a huge setback for fourth-year quarterback Trent Edwards, who managed to win back his job this year in training camp.  Edwards was unavailable for comment after the switch was announced, but had this to say after the Bills'
34-7 loss at Green Bay.
"We've put in a lot of effort, a lot of time, a lot of coaching: To have this result is pretty frustrating," Edwards said. "I've got to do a good job of looking in the mirror, fixing what I need to fix, and somehow get these guys going."
