Questions: WHy is it important for chromosomes to line of in the middle of cell during mitosis?

#2: IN a cell which is prepared for mitosis, why ar ethe 2 chromatids of each chromosome genetically identical?

#3: How many chromosomes does egg and sperm have to produce a normal zygote?

and... How many chromosomes would each sperm or egg have if human eggs and sperm were produced by mitosis?

  1. 1.) They line up in the middle so each new cell that's being made gets a perfect copy.

    2.) The new cells that are being made need to be the same and have the same genetic info.

    3.) Each s*x cell need 22 chromosomes and 1 X or Y chromosome.

    4.) Sperm and eggs would each have 22 chromosomes. For a cell to prepare for mitosis, it splits from 44 to 22. For a cell to do meiosis, it doubles its chromosome number from 44 to 88 then splits twice to 22 for each new cell (four are made this way compared to 2 mitosis made cells).

    2. There are 2 identical chromatids so the cell can reproduce an exact copy.

    3. 22 chromosomes in humans

    4.  The egg, not the sperm would have 44 chromosomes.
