Birthday present... for a man!!!!!!!!!?

Question

I have been seeing this guy for a while and his birthday is coming up (Aug 31, to be exact.) I want to get him or do something romantic and simple, just to show a little affection. I don't want to over do it or spend a lot of $$$ He is a pretty simple guy which is why this is so hard! help please... any ideas ladies.... and men what romantic simple gift have you received that seemed...perfect?
