My son is 19 months old. when ever he doesnt get his way he bites. Not other people but himself. he bites his arms, legs, fingers and leaves really bad marks on himself. he doesnt break skin but the marks are left their for days. Also when he dont get his way he slams his head on things. Does anyone have any advice on what to do to make him stop?? i tried punishing him but it doesnt do anything and telling him no doesnt do anything. any advice would be helpful

  1. You need to ignore him when he does these things. Telling him no and punishing him gves him the attention he's after. Ignoring him will show him that his behavior doesn't do anything and it'll stop eventually.

  2. My son never bites himself but he used to bang his head on things all the time starting at around 18 months. He still does the banging occasionally at 29 months but I've just learned to ignore it and if he starts to bang his head, and, in your case, bite himself,  just walk away and when you know he can't see you look to see if he's still doing it. Usually when I walk away and look back he's not doing it anymore. Don't punish him for biting himself or slamming his head on things, but also don't give into what he wants. Just ignore it.
