Bizarre poker situation?

Crazy home game I was at a few days ago.

Basically what happened was, one maniac player was essentially bluffing every hand, another player raised him, forcing him to fold. There was a third player in the hand, contemplating a re-raise. However, in Mr. Ebriated's frustrated, drunken stupor, he grabbed the raiser's pocket cards and announced them to the table.

What is the ruling if another player exposes a player's cards, altering the decision of a third player in the hand?

  1. The ruling is that each player must protect their hand.  The third player now can act on their hand.

  2. every home game has a different set of rules. in my home game if that does happen play still goes on and it is up to the people still in the hand to determine whether or not to continue the hand knowing what that person already has. if a blank comes on the board betting continues and so on. it is an advantage to the other players that are still in the hand knowing what they are up against. but all in all that was rude and that person should be kicked out never invited back.

  3. i think the ruling is that this idiot should probably get kicked out...other than that, the only fair and reasonable ruling i can come up with is that the hand is null and void and we act as if it never happened, or perhaps the players still involved in the hand can come to a solution on their own terms, depending on what the actual hands were

  4. Well yeah the hand plays as it lies and you probably don't want to kick the big fish out of the game.  You can make a rule like if someone does this they have to pay the person whose cards were exposed an amount of money like the amount in the pot so then the person doesn't get penalized.

It's a home game so the nice thing is you can make your own rules ;)

  5. The poker game rules do not cover such rude, stupid acts.

Being drunk is not an excuse. We've all had our share of booze at the poker tables but what this guy did is simply unforgivable.

While there is no specific ruling for such behavior, according to the common poker etiquette, this player would be forced to leave the money he has on the table, sent home and banned from playing with this particular group of players for a really long time.

  6. 38 caliber in old days...give him a "dope" slap upside the head, fine him ,ban him 1 game...

  7. If this was a home game you know what you should have done?  You should have just beaten the c**p out of him.  I know, he's a big time loser and you don't want to ban him.  Fine.  But when he sobers up and looks at a black eye, split lip, and a mashed nose he'll probably realize that he stepped over the line.  Which he did.  Most guys won't hold a beating against you SO LONG AS THEY FEEL THEY DESERVED IT!  And if he's grabbing other people's cards he better admit he deserved it.  But there's no reasoning with a drunk, and any ruling you gave in this situation would have made him angry and belligerent, more so than he already was.  Just lay a beating on him and toss him into the yard.  Tell him he's still welcome at the games, but you had to make sure he realized how serious his transgression is.
