Okay. So lets pretend the dealer shows an A or 10...and you have a 2-4...so u hit..and get like a 4....so u hit again..and get a 5. u have 2-4-4-5 which adds up to 15. the chart tells you to hit a 15 verse a power card. So do you hit? Or because you just got so many low cards in a row should you stand? And also...what are the guidelines u'd suggest depending on how many decks are being used. in a 6 deck game think about how many low cards are still out there to help you?

  1. well thats why its called gambling.

the dealer showing an ace is more cause for concern than them showing a 10. if they showing a 10 and draw a 10 or face card they bust but if they showing an ace any card they draw will be 20 or lower.

since casinos use multiple decks you cant really judge what cards are coming next. in a single deck if a lot of lower cards have been played then the chances are higher a 10 or face card will be coming soon.

odds are against hitting on 15, there are only 6 cards that will not make you bust and 28 cards that will bust you and thats just a single deck.

of course this raises the question; is it better to lose with 15 to the dealers two 10's? or losing to the dealers 12 because you busted thinking the dealer had two 10's?

the answer to that question is what you you should do when you find yourself holding 15 and thinking about hitting.

  2. I would hit because I was taught by my father to hit on 15 or 16 and stand on 17.

  3. If you stand on 15 when the dealer has A or 10, you will lose a large percent of the time. You are basically just giving up.

If you hit, you at least have a chance to improve your hand.

And do NOT assume the dealer has a 10 in the hole. You will be wrong almost 70% of the time.

  4. I would hit, IMO and experience the dealer usually has the 10 underneath.

  5. Statistically, you should still hit, unless you're playing single deck or counting cards. There are lots of scenarios like this though where you should veer from basic strategy when counting cards.

Here's a tip that most people do not know though. It can be found in the book "Blackbelt in Blackjack."

There are actually 2 situations where you can stray from basic strategy without counting cards, just based on the particular cards in your hand. One is called the "Rule of 45." When you have a 16 vs a dealer 10, basic strategy tells you to hit. But, this scenario is so statistically close to a stand, that removing a single card from the deck can change what you should do. If your hand is exactly 3 cards adding up to a total of 16, and one or more of these cards is a 4 or 5, statistically it is a better play to stand.

There is another similar rule involving a 12 vs a dealer 4. If you have a 12 that is a 2 and a 10, it is actually a better play to hit than to stand. This play will get a lot of groans from the table, but statistically it is the right play.

These 2 rules are valid in games using up to 6 decks. In 8 deck games or continuous shuffle games, stick to basic strategy.

  6. i would stay. chances are its gonna be a big next. but then again u could get lucky again and get a 6 or below. so it could go either way. if it was me i woulld hit it. 15 doesnt beat 20.

  7. Take the hit. I agree that most of the time the dealer has a 10 or face card underneath. So if the dealer has an ace you will lose same with a ten. Always take the chance to get to 17 or higher when the dealer shows these cards.
