Blackpool for new year?

Question

has anyone ever been to Blackpool for the new year? if so can you recommend a good hotel with entertainment?

i know its only may but you do have to book early!

I feel depressed just thinking about it! I did stay in the Lake District for New Year once, it was pleasant enough.

I lived there for 16 years...what a flaming dump.

If you want a decent hotel the Imperial is the best bet.

Really sorry love, but i have to agree with the others here. I went to Blackpool on a hen night last year. Its the most disgusting dirty expensive place i have been to in England. You will have to pay to go in the basic of pubs where your feet will stick to the carpet, and are full of drunken shaven headed, tattooed yobs. Look around and find somewhere nicer. That would be my advise. x*x

haha it is going to be sooooooooooooo cold on the beach front, unbelievable. The rides wont be open either. WHats teh point?

Lovely! It is a horrible place and a complete waste of time, you could find a much more upper class place to have a holiday than Blackpool. :-)

Arrrrggghhh! It's a horrible place - new year or otherwise. Hate to say it, but have you ever been? I live near it and spend a lot of time there for work - but socially I avoid it like the plague.

I've heard that the Metropole Hotel at North Pier has special deals over the new Year and the entertainment is supposed to be very good.  I can't testify to this as unfortunately we didn't manage to get there, but the conservatory is absolutely huge and if you get some winter sunshine it would be lovely in there. Also, I think walking along Blackpool beach in winter is fantastic, especially as it's so quiet.  Quite a few pubs stay open over the winter and obviously the big shops are open like Marks and Woolworths.
