  1. blue moon all the way.

  2. Obviously taste is always a personal choice.  I would highly recommend buying a six-pack of each and deciding for yourself.

Hoegaarden is a true Belgian Witbier.  It is brewed in Belgium and the recipe was designed by Pierre Celis -- the man who is credited with reviving this style from semi-extinction.  It is very light in color, has some pleasant yeast spiciness, and has all of the orange peel and coriander flavors that you would expect from a true version of this style.

Blue Moon is brewed by Coors.  It doesn't really follow the true witbier brewing tradition.  First off, the color is a little dark for a witbier.  The yeast is too neutral.  And the orange peel and coriander are a bit over the top - which they need to be to have character in a maltier beer like Blue Moon.  That said, I still like it ... but not as much as Hoegaarden.

The beer snob in me says go with the Hoegaarden.  I really do think that this is the lighter version of the style.  (Which means it's easier to drink "lots of" if that's part of your attraction to this style.)  Still, it costs more than Blue Moon, so if price is a consideration you may want to go with Blue Moon.

Back to my original comment.  I would recommend a "blind" tasting of both to answer your question.  Have a friend serve you both while wearing a blindfold (or at least shut your eyes before you see the beers.)  Then decide which one you like more!

  3. blue moon definitely is lighter and has a better taste

  4. beer that i make at home

  5. kick him in the shin

  6. Both are easy to drink a lot of (and stronger than mass produced light beer swill).  Hoegaarden is less likely to give you heartburn.

  7. Blue Moon Most Def!

  8. Go for that Hoe all the way Jose. Hope you're of age partner!

  9. Blue Moon, try an orange slice instead of lemon!

  10. I prefer Hoegaarden.  I think it is a bit lighter than blue moon, though I believe they are both wheat beers.  It's nice with a slice of lemon :)

  11. Both beers are witbiers and stylistically speaking it's a light and easy drinking beer.  I'd personally go with Hoegaarden because it's a bit more true to style and drinks a bit more crisply IMO.
