Boating licence in nj?

i am 14 years old and i have wanted a boating licence for waverunner and small boats. i always thought that you needed a drivers licence first so i was ging to wait until i was sixteen but my best friend just got his licence so i wanted to know the requirements and how to get one.

From what I read of New Jersey's regulations you may get a boater safety 'license' under 16 but you may  You may operate a vessel powered solely by an electric motor or a vessel 12 feet long or longer with less than 10 HP.
