Boeing 747-400 upper deck upgrade?

Question

i will be flying in a boeing 747-400 soon, and i'm in economy...is there any way i could upgrade (for free) so i could be in the upper deck? or are they strictly reserved for first class passengers?

Upper deck is 97% of the time Business Class. They usually put First Class up in the front of the aircraft. The only free way is if you upgrade using your miles from your airline's award program or if they accidentally assigned you to someone else's seat and there are no more economy seats (rare but I've read that it has happened) they may upgrade you.

You can upgrade but not for free. You don't even want to know what the upgrade cost is.
