my dell has been having issues booting. i got a virus (go figure;i have windows) worm.win32.netbooster . i know what the virus does, so now my computer will not boot anything for anyone. floppy, cdrom, nothing works except the hard disk infected with a virus. i am well versed in computer repair, done lots of just about everything, ive tried everything, including switching boot sequence, but i will admit im stumped.

  1. That's a new one for me!

Have you tried removing the CMOS keepalive battery for a minute or so, then replacing it? (Looks like a quarter in a holder on the motherboard) That should reset all CMOS settings.

Restart, go into BIOS (F2 for Dell, I think) and set boot sequence to place CD-ROM at top of list.

Boot from something like a Bart PE CD-ROM to see what's on drive C, and you should be able to handle it from there.

BTW, I like the Optiplex GX260: solidly constructed and easy to service.

Leave a note on my Contact Me page to let me know this case disposition, please.

  2. OK, if you are well versed in PC repair, then try this tool.  It will require another computer to write the ISO for this, and you will have to do some studying up and so forth, but it will make a special boot disk for you with antivirus and malware detectors:
