  3. Johnny....to me the Predator is the best cue made....in "my mind" it answers the questions that one has about cue ball control....such as "squirt and deflection"....the "p**p" that they put out has "convinced" me that this is the most perfect cue out there....if "I believe" this, then why go get another stick....now if it would get my hiney to the next level that would be great.....I just don't see spending an awful lot of money looking for the right cue....went thru that with Tennis and ultimately it does not matter what you play with.....a good player will beat you with a house cue just as easy and cheaper!

  4. Well Johnny, I play with an original Ray Schuler custom cue.  Ray died back in 2002, but the company still exists making cues to the same specifications under the name Schuler Legacy Cues.  You can always tell an original Ray Schuler from the later ones by the signature.  On the Legacy cues, Ray's signature is copied along with the letters S.L.C.  Anyway, why do I prefer Schuler cues?  In a word, the joint.  Ever since people started making two-piece cues, the goal has been to create a jointed cue that when assembled, "feels" like a solid piece of wood.  After playing with a whole array of different cues, I've never played with anything even close to a Schuler.  The harmonics of the Schuler are absolutely perfect.  Imagine the most perfect, brand new one-piece bar cue only weighted better.  That's what a Schuler plays like.  You can feel everything in your grip hand, it's so sensitive.  Not only can you see and hear if you hit the cue ball correctly, you can feel it too.  For me this makes it the best.  This is actually the reason why I play so well with one-piece house cues.  A good one will play nearly as well as my Schuler and definitely better than most production cues.  I only take my Schuler out to play in tournaments, leagues, or going specifically to a pool hall.  I can play well with just about any cue as long as it has a good tip and is relatively straight, but the feedback that I get in my grip hand from the Schuler is what sets it apart.  Schuler was a German machinist and avid carom player who apprenticed under BCA HOF cuemaker Herman Rambow and patterned the taper of his shafts after Rambow's.  Schuler then went on to create his unique joint and different selection of shafts for different games and playing styles.  The great thing about Schuler cues is interchangability.  Every Schuler shaft ever made fits on every butt ever made.  Schuler cues historically have been very popular among 3-cushion players.  BCA HOF player Sang Lee played with a Schuler.  BCA HOF author and 3-cushion champion Robert Byrne has always played with a Schuler.  Every teacher at Cue-U, plays with a Schuler, including two of the current nine BCA Master Instructors.  That's my two cents.  Like I always say, the tip and the straightness of the shaft are of course the most important, but this in my opinion is what makes the Schuler unique and superior.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

  5. Well, Johnny, you know I have to go with Evan Clarke of Schon fame...

  6. Troy Downey, of Downey custom cues, would be my pick. if your looking for something more economical,  try Meucci, yes they are made in america!  cheaper still, yet quality, are "rat" cues. you can pick one of them up for a couple of hundred dollars, if the $1000+ mark of a truely excellent cue is scary!

  7. I would venture to say that every poster to your question plays with a different brand name. Currently I am using a Terbrock. Jerry Terbrock has been in business in the St. Louis area 20-years.

Here are a couple reasons: Two teams went to Las Vegas two-years ago and finished 1st and 3rd. Every member of both teams used Terbrock's.

The winner of the Senior tournament (Richie Cunningham) used a Terbrock.

The open 9-Ball event was taken by Andy Quinn. He also used a Terbrock.

Julia Gabriel finished high in the ladies with a Terbrock.

The St. Louis contingency walked off with a heap'o trophies that year.

Currently I own 11 cue sticks, all different brands. At present I plan to stick with the Terbrock.

That is not to say it's the very best, but it's high on my list.

    Thanks for asking, Jay.

  8. Need to say Bill Schick because I play with them but I would be hard pressed to rule out Black or Runde. This is assuming we are talking about living cue makers.

    Luck

    K

PS pick up a bella sera if you can ...will prob double in value next 3-4 yrs

  9. IMHO, Anthony (Tony) Sciannella of Black Boar Custom cues has to be noted here. The combination of playabilty and beauty that he creates is rare. I just wish I had the $$$.

  10. I'm sure it's far from the best, but I rock a beautiful McDermott that never lets me down.
