When I Throw Punches I Always Seem To Hold My Breath, Is This Normal & How Do I Stop It From Happening?

  1. practie breathing properly breath in then out.

    when you punch you should breath out. some people make an exagerated breath which results in a woosh noise.

    it is important ot get htis under ontrol b/c if you can't breathe you can't fight


  2. this is not rare but it's not normal either. you need some endurance or breathing training. just one of your friends can help you with the breathing but you should run and breath normally instead of the "hhaaoh hhaaooh" heavy breathing thing. or while your punching your bag run in place and try to control your breathing

    keep your mouth closed while punching. the holding your breath thing wont hurt your performance but if you dont ike it try these things

  3. Learning to conserve your breath is something that is learned with experience. The more you work at it the easier it will become.

    The recommendation of exhaling when you punch is correct, but there is much more to it than that. In time you will learn to relax when boxing, especially when its going down and your in the thick of it. The green guys will grow tired simply from nervous tension. Even when they are breathing properly they are constricting so many muscles with the nervous tension that they will begin to feel fatigued. And any time that you are not in range of your opponent, meaning moving laterally around the ring, take long deep breaths. When the opponent is in range, you return to the exhaling with the punches and let your hands go. When either you or your opponent move out of range, begin the slow breaths again.

    When the bell has sounded and the round ends, walk to your corner and take three deep breaths, letting each out as slow as you can. This will slow the heart rate a bit and allow you to freely catch your breath after the breaths are complete. After you take the breaths, sit on your stool and then, and only then will you get water. Do the breaths before drinking or your going to end up with air bubbles burping up the next round from breathing so heavy and fast while drinking the water.

  4. You ahve to mentally train yourself how to breath right in boxing. When u throw a jab, u dont wanna exhale to hard cause its a "soft punch" Now when you're throwing hard hooks, uppercuts, or combos then u need to breath out hard and snap the punches. Soft, soft.....Hard, HARD!! Thats how your breathing should be. It does take time to get used to but you can do it!!! Good Luck!

  5. How do you not stop it? your supposed to sharply breathe out.

    Start training yourself to do it. Now when your about to get punched its smart to hold your breath quickly.
