Question:

Boxing advice?

Hey everyone. I'm a beginner (and mostly casual) boxer here. I'm not professionally interested (yet) but I just want to know how to effectively use what I currently have.

I've been told that I have quite a lot of stamina, especially considering I'm pretty unfit. I weigh 65 kilos (16 yo; it seem be light/heavy to some people but among my friends I'm a bit above average) and am 178cm tall (around 5 foot 10 inches).

Any general advice on how I should fight? What do I have that I can use to my advantage? I exercise for one hour a day besides the boxing - what sort of exercises should I incorporate?

Thanks in advance.

  1. Join a boxing club.

  2. At 5'10 unless you grow some more, you probably want to get down to Middleweight. 5'10 is kind of small for a Light Heavy, where most fighters are close to or above six foot.

As far as stamina, how many rounds can you go without feeling tired? A full 12?

If you lack seriouse power, the best style for you would be a volume puncher, which requires lots of stamina, to compensate for lack of power.

If you do have power, then can use that energy on your defense and to set-up your power shots. Such as constantly being a moving targert, creating angles, to make yourself hard to hit, while using your jab to set up power shots or hard combinations.
