Question:

Breast Reduction covered by insurance?

Has anyone ever had a breast reduction covered by insurance? What insurance did you have? Was there a requirement to how much weight was removed for it to be considered medical instead of cosmetic? Did you have to have recommendations from a chiropractor or doctor? Could you have other procedures done along with the reduction if you paid for those yourself?

Thanks for your responses!

  1. Breast reductions can and DO get covered by insurance.  My company covered it 100%.

The requirements differ from company to company.  One might ask you to show proof throughout the years of back pain, or want you to see a chiro first, or want you to lose weight first.

My company approved it without all that nonsense.  Took about 6 weeks to approve it.

They DID have a minimum requirement of 600 grams to be taken out total.  I ended up getting over 2000 grams (about 4.8 pounds) taken out!

You can get other procedures done at the same time as the reduction, I know several that got a tummy tuck along with it.
