I plan on breastfeeding but I was wondering is it possible to do both? My friend said that she bottle fed formula and breast fed at night and I was wondering how soon can you do this and will my milk supply stay up even if i'm not breastfeeding all day. Also can someone explain to the best of their ability how breastfeeding is at the very beginning? A lot of people are trying to make it seem horrible or atleast saying it like it is.

  1. Yes you can do both, just introduce the bottle little by little, and after you breastfeed in the begginning pump. The best thing you can do is get a breastfeeding book and be informed about all the options you have and all that comes with breastfeeding.

It can be horrible in the begginning, but it doesn't have to be AND if it is horrible, it can get better. I had a rough month of it, but then it was great and I breastfed both my sons for a year!

  2. Breast feed as much as you can at first so your milk comes in, if the baby gets a bottle now and then it's ok, then after 2 weeks you can do bottle more, you should pump your milk and feed that too baby as much as possible, but formula will not hurt baby. When I went to work I pumped once in day, then breast fed all night. I fed my babies that way until they were both 7 months old, then we switched to formula.

  3. You can do both but it isn't very good because the nipple and rubber nipple are way different to a baby and if you start the breastfeeding and start the bottle it can cause the baby to get confused and they may stop latching on to your breast. Breastfeeding takes alot of work but it is best for your baby because it helps build a better immune system and it has all the nutrients the baby needs.
