Breastfeeding help...?

I just had my second baby six days ago and am trying breast feeding for the first time. She is an excellent sucker and has been since she was born. My question is she usually only feeds on one side before she falls alseep so should I be pumping the other side? The side that she dosnt drink on for that feeding will usually start leaking so I have begun pumping it so both sides are empty..the one she drank on and the one I pumped? Is that okay or should I just not pump it and let her start on it next time? Im just afraid if I dont pump the one side that it will start lessining my milk supply since she isnt hungry enough for both sides yet..thanks!

  1. if your going back to work then YES pump and store that extra BM.... that what i did and am still doing...  DONT let that milk go to waste...

if your a stay at home.. i still recomend intro a bottle.. my friend idnt and her baby even at 6mths wont drink outta a bottle/sippy/or/cup...  (shes a Stay at home..)

Im a working one... i gave my son his 1st bottle at day 4  (just a few Oz in it)  everyday for weeks he got one bottle while i was on leave...

was always a feeding champ like your little girl... so now at 4mths old he switches from bottle to breast no problems... and i have a freezer ful of EBM  for him while im at work....   i pump every 4 hours (on my breaks) at work...  i spend no money on fourmula witch is what we like alot...   Just dont wait to long to intro a bottle.... AND i LOVE it when we go out shoping,,,, my friend has to stop and nurse for 20 minutes....  Me i can walk along side the cart and fed a bottle to my son in the basket as he sits in his car seat and Hubby and i can still cont. to shop .....

    good luck

  2. the next time she nurses just nurse on the side that she didn't the time before...that is what I did and I am still breastfeeding at 9 months and have had plenty of milk that I haven't even given my baby formula

  3. Put your pump (why do you have a pump? You do not need a pump if you are not forced to return to work before baby is about 6mo) away. If you are nursing on demand, no bottles, you don't need to worry about your supply.

It is normal for her to fall asleep after one; just offer the next at the next feed.

If you keep pumping you risk an oversupply, which can be a problem in itself.

  4. Feeding off one side is normal.  If you want to pump or not, it's up to you.  It's great for getting a freezer stash, but also tiring.  If you don't pump, or only just enough to make yourself comfortable, then your body will even out.  However, I'd just try to get her to nurse every 1 1/2 to 2 hours right now, even if she says she's not hungry.  Get her naked and nurse as best as possible.  By a few days, your body will slow down production, but it might get worse before it gets better.  But pumping that side 'dry' will tell your body to make more cause you have one very hungry baby.  Make sure to nurse the next time on the side you pumped (or not, if you decide not to).  My babies rarely ever took both sides at one feed, not even at nine months or older.

  5. Agree with above people that you don't need to be pumping at this point. But you could also try letting her nurse one side, doze a few minutes, then change her or gently rouse her (removing some clothing to cool her, gently wake her) to feed on the other side. I had to do this since my daughter was loosing too much weight and too sleepy. That way you dont feel too full. If you do this way, then just start out with the other breast the next time (the one you ended on).

  6. You don't need to pump, she will be enough to get your supply where it needs to be for her.  Just be sure to put her to the other side first next time.

  7. Well if you plan on storing the milk for any reason then by all means pump the side she doesn't eat from. If you are not storing you do not HAVE to pump, but you may want to express some for relief and then feed her from that side next time. Your body will adjust to your child's needs.

  8. You don't need to pump.  Just alternate side with every feeding.  That's how I did it!

  9. Your milk is supply on demand. If you pump the supply will keep coming and you will keep leaking. Just feed on alternate sides and your supply will adjust and when your baby wants more it will adjust again and produce more.

  10. no you don't need to pump it- in fact pumping may make the leaking worse- eventually your b*****s will get used to the fact that you abby is nursing on the other one and will produce milk as baby feedds not when they think baby feeds. You don't need to feed her equally on both sides either. in fact, feeding longer on one side ensures that your baby gets more of the hindmilk which is fattier and great for weight gain. if you feed her on the other breast the next time you'll be just fine. as long as your baby eats from it you'll have milk. breastfeeding is based on supply and demand so as long as you demand it you'll have it. a breast pump doesn't get the same amount of milk out as baby does anyways here is a great site for you and it has a lot of information

right now your b*****s are engorged  but eventually they won't be and they won't leak. They may even feel "empty or like tehy ahev nothing in them but they will. Your b*****s will produce milk AS she feeds
