Breastplate or breastgirth?

Question

ok so i have a fairly new horse. He didnt come with a breastplate or martingale or anything but since i event i want to keep my saddle from slipping back. And it is almost essential for cross country but one problem i dont know if i should get my horse a breastplate (if i need to i can eventually buy the running attatchment) or a breastgirth. Breastplates are pretty expensive v.s. a breastgirth and my horse is a 17.3 TB so hes REALLY hard to fit, it would probably be oversized. Any tips on a breastplate or a breastgirth?

I like martingales, they work exelently

Not all horses need these...   ...do some xc jumping first to see if it is necessary.

I'd suggest the breastplate. I used one on Harv for a while. I do have a breastgirth as well but it rubbed him so I stopped using it.

breastplates have seemed to rub for my horses. Breastgirths are stretchy but work forthe job, plus you can get fuzzy socks so they don't rub. breastplates - more for arena type jumping and foxhunting

go to www.doversaddlery.com and www.horseloverz.com. they have LOADS of stuff, don't give up! and brestcollars/breastplates are fairly cheap on horseloverz and are adjustable, so you can get it so it fits, i have a horse that is a little bigger than a pony but he has a breastplate and it adjusts so that it fits him perfectly! try on both. i had a friend who bought a breastgirth but had to return it for a breastplate because it was rubbing her horse.
