  1. The term "breeze blocks" is and old fashioned term and can be misleading.

    There are two types of block;

    Concrete blocks;  These are heavy and used for structural work and outside work.

    "Thermalite blocks"  These are lightweight insulation blocks, used for the inner (or outer) skin of brickwork in housebuilding.  You cut them with an old saw and they are so light they will float on water!

    If you want thermalite blocks, follow the advice above and collect them.

    For concrete blocks, bite the bullet and get them delivered.  You will break your back loading them out of a car boot as well as the car springs!!.  Cheepest will be to buy a whole pallet.

  2. your local builders merchant will deliver free if you spend a certain amount of money.

  3. Try a local builders merchant. They all sell breeze ( Thermalite) blocks.

    They are very light - 50 will go in a car.

    Most deliver for £5 or £10 if you spend £100+

    You really want to be buying then within 10 miles of your house, particularly in a big city like B'ham - there must be 100's of places.
