  1. Probably more oppurtunites in Brissy. The Gold Coast is really nice though

  2. I live in Brisbane, and work on the G/Coast..Southport. I would never live on the g/coast, unless its a suburb on the outer.Altho driving to g/coast everyday can be a pain in the butt, I have gotten use to it. For your wife there would be more opportunities... in brisbane, for her line of work. I would suggest living in brisbane..and see if this life style suits you both...goodluck

  3. Without meaning to sound rude, the areas of the Gold Coast I've visited are either tacky and resorty, or a bit of a hick town - It's certainly beautiful and tropical but I think I would feel a whole lot more remote and cut off living there than in the city.

Brisbane is a nice city with some pleasant suburbs, and it is not hard to get out of the town and into the bush or the fantastic nearby coast.

  4. with such a lot of hospitals i think it depends what area your wife works there are several hospitals between Tweed heads the Gold coast, logan area, brisbane south . I can name a few of them . There is tweedheads hospital on the border of NSW one and a half hours from Brisbane . Then on the Goldcoast we have The GoldCoast hospital .Robina hospital. Pindarra. Pacific private. up the road between goldcoast and brisbane is logan then south of Brisbane Princess Alexander. The Mater and many more in and around Brisbane. There is only one hour drive between The Goldcoast and brisbane but you wouldn't want to travel the motorway each day in rush hour.  I must disagree with anyone that doesn't think the GoldCoast is good to live in. I live here and love it. Yes like anywhere there is a couple of places that maybe a bit tacky but most of it is superb  and I wouldn't change it for Brisbane although parts of brisbane are nice it certainly doesn't compare to the GoldCoast.

  5. I personally would not want to live in regional cities so I'd say Brisbane here. The Gold Coast is great if you like beaches and theme parks.

  6. Gold Coast just don't stay in a too touristy place. Probobly an equal amount of work and a much better lifestyle.

  7. Nursing is one of those industries where you can get a job basically anywhere, so either destination would suit.

However there are some things to consider -

The crime rates on the Gold Coast are higher I believe.  Housing is much more expensive.

The main industry is tourism, so you'd have to consider what your line of work is too.

It is my personal opinion that unless I lived in the outer suburbs of either destination, then neither would be suitable.  There are plenty of other options in south east Qld to chose from.  But if you were to chose somewhere like the Gold Coast, then seriously look at the hinterland area eg Tamborine mountain.  For Brisbane, try the outer areas like Ipswich or on the other side Redcliffe.

  8. All depends how you can take the heat in summer.  If you can't - live on the coast in the sea breeze, Brisbane gets very hot.

  9. Brisbane. The citys perfect for a nurse and you might find it hard on the Goldcoast for other jobs for you and your family but a nurse either suits. But brisbane still.

  10. Brisbane definitely.

I live in Highgate Hill/Dutton Park (technically Highgate Hill but I am 100m away from the border to Dutton Park) and its really nice. Considering I am only 2km from the city, it feels like in the bush, the back of my yard goes down into a nice gully and I can see the Brisbane River from my house really easily. There is little traffic problems in our area and bus services are plenty.

Go Brisbane.  Gold Coast is all hype and no substance.
