  1. A child born outside the UK after 1st January 1983, will only be a British Citizen by descent if:

At the time of the child's birth the father or mother of the child is a British Citizen by birth, adoption, registration or naturalisation, but not by descent.

We need to ask - where was your mother born?

If she was born in UK, then yes you are a british citizen.

If she was born outside the UK to british born parents, then YOU are not a british citizen, although you can emigrate to and settle in UK on the ancestry visa.

You should contact a British embassy/high comission or a consulate and ask. Make sure you have your mothers british birth certificate and your own full birth cert.

You will need them as proof.

  2. With that date of birth you would have to have both parents born in Britain or at least 3 of your 4 grandparents born in Britain to qualify for British citizenship.
