Question:

British people's manners?

Today, after being elbowed in the ribs for the millionth time I snapped. I was getting on the tube, standing back to allow a couple with a large pram and two young children to step up onto the train first when a young woman of far eastern origin tried to barge me sideways to get on in front. I quite firmly "semi-shouted" "DON'T PUSH", she backed off immediately and hurried off sheepishly to another end of the train. Next thing I know I am being glared at disapprovingly by the tutting poms!

Was it wrong of me to rebuke the woman?

Why do the British moan about things but never seem to react to them?

Perhaps my reaction was too South African, "I tuned her straight to her face, china!".

Any thoughts?

  1. do what u got to do  you tired

  2. Lol Honey I've also tried the nice polite way but it does not work here,so if someone push and shove me I do the same.xx

  3. I think you were right in telling the woman this. However, maybe a little more subtle approach would have got you a better response, lol. But I don't blame you at all..!!

It's like the law here, they want change the law of buying alcohol from 18 to 21 in all places because of binge drinking. I personally don't think it will work because if these youngsters want the drink they WILL get it. Either by stealing or getting someone of the legal age to buy it for them, which they already do.

Instead of always trying to punish the whole country and bring in a new law, why don't they just in force the law already in pace? That's my argument!

    Not everyone abuses alcohol.

  4. I have had the exact same experience in the UK. I could not believe that people actually shove you in the back or ribs, propelling you forward or sideways. I also turned around livid, and shouted ‘Stop shoving me!'

Amazingly people stepped back. I was also stared at...but at least it worked. I have tripped many times as a result of someone shoving me from the back in the UK.

  5. No. You couldn't really help that you snapped. In any case, it makes you feel better that you chooned someone hey!

  6. You are at it again MJ making unsubstantiated posts about the British people. You said the woman was of far eastern origin how do you know she was British. You were not wrong to chastise her, but a more typical English response would have been to say excuse me a little more forcefully than usual putting you in the right for not being rude and probably getting nods of approval instead of tuts. Another fact for you if you had ever travelled Asia (Especially India) you would know it's commonplace for people to just barge past you without a moments hesitation. For crying out loud will you get out of that c**p hole of a city and see if you can find some real British people.

  7. Semi Shouted - Don't Push?

Wow how MORE subtle can you get than that - in South Africa that would be considered a polite response...

Tutting Poms - HA HA HA - love it can just picture them mumbling under their breaths...!!!

  8. I'll back yo *** Get me in the Bok Bar - One cant answer this question as we did not here the tone of you voice or the volume.

Its not really what people think, dont see yourself through the eye's of others.

  9. Sneaky! Sneaky!! Sneaky!!! the Brits are; They love to fine tune thing under and not in front of everyone.  Good on you, you cannot let anyone cheat you of your space just to be liked by the Brits or the likes of them....I am with you girl!

  10. well done!!!!
