Broccoli plants gone bad?

I planted a few broccoli plants in my garden and the florets came up nicely. I waited for them to grow larger and fuller, but instead they turned into little yellow flowers! Did I wait to long to pick them? Or am I growing mutant plants???

  1. You needed to pick them when they were florets.  Broccoli is a cool weather crop and once it flowers, it's too warm for them. It's called bolting and they are most likely not very edible now.

  2. you waited tooooo long

  3. yep,you waited too long.cut them off and you will get some newer smaller ones

  4. You can try cutting off the flowering heads to see if they will regrow smaller flowerets. Depends on how far along they are in the seeding process whether or not that will work. Give it a few weeks, and you can plant more from seed for fall harvest :) Broccoli hates the heat, it's better to grow members of the cabbage family in early spring and fall.
