  1. It should be ok...Unplug it and leave somewhere warm and dry for a few days. I spilt a drink on my laptop after 2 weeks. I wrapped it in a towel and put in the airing cupboard for about 3 days and it works fine only some of the keys are a bit stiff...

  2. Sorry no hope your beer is gone, you'll have to go to the offy.

As for your telly now it has tasted beer there is no hope for it, it will drink and drink again until you destroy the monster you created

  3. Depends on where you spilled the beer and whether the TV was on and smoked at the time.  If it smoked depends on what smoked and how much it costs to fix versus how much a new TV costs.

Best case scenario:  Unplug and dry out the TV by leaving it off for a few days.  Take it in for service to be sure.  The real problem is the conductivity of the beer due to the amount of conductive material in the liquid.

Worst case scenario:  It smoked and it needs repair or replacement.

  4. Argh ! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if that beer has come into contact with ANY of the components inside the set, then expect the TV to fail at some point in the future.

Beer contains sugar, and this reacts with the copper found on all circuit boards.

It may be ok for a few days, but pretty quickly, this smelly, green gunge starts to form around the legs of the various parts on the circuit board.

I've seen some spills actually lift the copper track clean off the circuit board.

The best thing you can do is not use the set, get it to a tv repair guy asap. He can remove the board with the spillage on, and wash it thoroughly with IPA (isopropyl alcohol). This is a very effective cleaner, and leaves no residue.

If you act quickly, its possible to save the set. If you ignore it, it will fail - guaranteed.

I've seen so many products with a variety of liquids spilt inside - mostly drinks of one sort or another, but even animal urine as well (thats really vicious stuff).

You may have course been very lucky, and the spill may have completely missed all the electronic parts inside, but I'd be amazed if this was the case. Also, liquids have a habit of creeping horizontally when left to their own devices, so the damaged area can extend some distance from the site of the spill.

I do hope you can sort it out !

**Cautionary note: Do not attempt to repair this yourself. TV sets contain VERY high voltages, even when switched off for many hours. The possibility of hurting yourself, or doing serious damage is very real. You have been warned !

  5. Depends on the beer - if it was Heineken it was only water anyway so just leave it to dry out.
