Broken wireless!

Question

I have a Sony VAIO laptop and am currently in an apartment with wireless capabilities. My roommate also has a laptop that is connecting fine to the network in our apartment, but mine is unable to find any networks to connect to. The wirless lan switch on the bottom right of my laptop does not come on when i turn it on and my laptop is unable to find any networks anywhere. I bought my laptop at Best Buy about 2 months ago. Can you help?! I am pretty sure my laptop is the problem and not the router in my place, as I am on a friend's laptop now in the same place and it is connecting to the internet fine. HELP!!
