I am a troop volunteer and i am new to the whole girl scout situation, anyway all my girls are New to girl scouting as well, they are brownie age on the verge of juniors. Does the brownies move on up to junior level when they turn the age to or do they have to have all their try its gotten? This was something that had me wondering. everyone i have asked has said they are to be in each level for 3 yrs but their is no way mine can be since some are already in 3rd grade and all.

  1. back when I was scout it was based on age  not how many years in Juniors or browines,

They do not need to earn all the try it badges, either,,

When the time comes the girls will bridge to the Junior level,,

Check with your local council for current information,

  2. When I was 9 years old, we had a bridge ceremony. Each  brownie would cross the bridge from Brownie onto Junior. I didn't have every try it badge but nevertheless I earned my wings.

  3. In Girl Scouts, level progression is based on age and grade. Brownies go through third grade, then Juniors start up.

And almost no troop earns all the Try-its, the troop picks them based on interest and resouces.

When you get to Juniors, there are something like 100 badges. No way they could earn all of those!

Note that the third graders can earn the Bridge to Juniors award (look in the back of the Brownie Handbook for requirements). That is a special patch they can wear on their Junior vest.

Another thing - any Girl Scout who has been a Brownie is entitled to wear the Fly-up wings, which are awarded after they become Juniors.

  4. This is where your local service group can really help you.  Previous posters are correct - you fly-up from Brownie to Junior based on age and grade -- not time in the level.  Bridging ceremonies are really neat ways to "graduate" from one level to the next.  Check with the corordinator for your area - if you don't know who that is, start with the people who signed you up - or who give you the information on things like cookie sales, etc.  Tell them you need some orientation classes and info.  They can come and help you with this info, partner you up with someone more experienced and basically just give you more info and confidence.

  5. your troop can bridge at the end of the 3rd grade.  Bridging is done  by grade not age and it doesnt matter if you earn all your try its or not

  6. Daises are ages 5-6 years old, or grades K-1st grade

Brownies are ages6-8, or grades 1-3

Juniors are ages 8-11 or grades 3-6

Cadettes are ages 11-14 or grades 6-9

Seniors are ages 14-17 or grades 9-12

It is up to the families and the troop to decide when the girls will bridge to the next level.  All Brownies that move up to Juniors are entitled to wear the Brownie Wings, but they must earn the Bridge to Juniors to be entitled to wear it.  The girls can still cross over without earning the bridge.  Depending on the girls and the troop to how many Try-Its are earned.

My daughter and several other girls had all the Try-Its, almost all of the Junior Proficiency Badges and Almost all of the Cadette/Senior Interest Project patches.  While others in the troop only had a few.  There is no set number that they must earn.
