sh ejust started eating and drinking again 15 hours ago, and she did swallow an abnormally large amount of water, but that was like three days ago

she also lost some blood from her feet

she started eating and drinking again on her own last night, and she is on antibiotics from the vet and i'm busy doing a fecal tricome test

anyone got any idea why her stools could be bubbly? shes a seed eater btw, and i plan to wean her off onto a pellet diet after she is well again.

otherwise she seems okay. shes preening herself alot and munching once in a while.

so to summarise it :

is there a problem?

will the fecal tricome tellm e whats wrong if there is a problem?

  1. I don't know if there is something wrong with bubbly p**p, my african is in great health and his p**p often bubbles.

  2. As far as I know, the fecal trichrome test is for a parasite called Giardia.  It is difficult to diagnose from one fecal sample because it is not shed in every dropping.  Since you say you are busy with the test, I'm guessing you have a 3-day fecal collection underway?  Giardia is fairly common in cockatiels though I don't know that it's related to liver disease.  However there is still a question on whether or not your bird actually HAS liver disease so perhaps your vet feels that Giardia may be the cause of the change in your bird's droppings.  (She could have picked up Giardia from the pond but I'd be surprised if it showed up that quickly.  If she has a Giardia infection it's probably longer-standing than the pond incident).

In any event, since your bird is being treated by the vet you should telephone the office and tell them of the change in your bird's droppings (and that her feet have bled again).  They should be able to tell you whether it's possible that the antibiotics have contributed to the change or if the change is consistent with whatever they are testing for.

Whenever your bird is on medication at the advice of your vet, never hesitate to call the vet's office when there has been a change in your bird's condition.  That's why you are paying them :-)

Good luck to you and your little bird.  I'm glad you've taken her to the vet and I hope they find the cause of her illness (and that it is easy to treat :-)

  3. I really think you should start feeding her pellets now, fresh fruit and treats like egg (shell and all). She does sound sick, I have three Cockatiels and a Parrotlet. They've never been sick before, and maybe the stools are bubbly because of the medication she's on.
