Budgie Egg Binding?

Question

My budgie i think has egg binding. She looks like she has an egg inside her, but today all of a sudden shes kinda fluffed up and her wings are down. She is sleeping a bit and isnt eating today it seems. Her mate is feeding her thankfully, but she is NOT at the bottom of the cage. She can still climb the cage and perch normally.

Im really scared that she might die, but there is no vet today as it is Canada Day here and everything is closed.

For first aid: Get some steaming hot water in a deep dish, place a grille over it, and put your budgie on the grille. The steam will relax the bird's anal muscles and ease the passage of the egg. And be sure to put a sieve under the grille just in case so the egg doesn't crack when it drops!

But most importantly, take your bird to an avian vet as soon as possible tomorrow. Visit www.aav.org to find the nearest avian vet. For further info, go to www.parrotplace.ca and ask a budgie breeder (there's an entire list of them) what to do, they might be able to help out more -- egg-binding can be very problematic :(

Has your bird got access to a cuttlebone? It provides necessary calcium used to help develop the egg shell and prevent egg-binding from occuring. As you may know, this problem can cause the bird to die and you must arrange an appointment asap; you mentioned canada day.

Keep her in a warm climate, away from a draught but not hot. Fluffed feathers, lack of movement, head under wing and not eating or drinking. Keep a very close eye on her and have a look around google to see what you can find to benifit her.

make sure she is nurished or else the egg could stop moving and that would kill your bird if she hasnt had access to a cuttlebone or other calcium sources you should find the nearest open pet store and buy a calcuim shot then massage her neck so that her body absorbs it if she does have have that try massaging her body gently if that doesnt work try yahoo searches ad google
