How much thermite would it take to burn through, say, a foot of concrete? I'm planning to set it in forms of packed earth and brick.

  1. It won't work.  Thermite is used to generate bursts of heat, which can be used to weld with, but not to burn through concrete.

This is very dangerous stuff, the sale of which is controlled.  As you are a novice, you wouldn't want to experiment with it, even if you could get it.

Coincidentally, it is also used for pyrotechnics in fireworks.

  2. NEVER,EVER apply open flame or heat to concrete! It will blow up in your face! Try sticking a cutting torch to it,if you don't beleive me!

Sounds like you need a concrete saw to score the opening and a jackhammer to remove the material. Some things just ain't easy !

  3. Ummmm Except for like maybe a high powered laser or something You can't burn a hole in concrete....lol Especially if its a foot thick. And there is bound to be rebar in there anyways
