  1. Pass out your business cards every chance you get.  If you have tourist-related business in the area and your candy is unique, talk to the managers about putting your cards on their counter in return for their cards on your counter.  Join the Chamber of Commerce and put a hot sheet in their monthly newsletter.  Try to get the local paper to run an article about your unique candy.

For example, I have a friend with a candy store in Napa Valley who makes chocolate candy infused with wine.  Her store is near several tourist destinations and she sells a lot of her candy to tourists.  She has her cards all over town.

One thing... never, ever, under any circumstances, put cards or flyers on car windshields under the wiper blade.  I have had wiper blades destroyed because the jerk who put the flyer there bend the arm of the wiper and I had to spend about $30 or so to replace the entire wiper assembly.  I automatically throw those flyers/cards in the trash without reading.

  2. Business cards are the cheapest form of advertising. Pass them out everywhere.

Approach local shops like coffee houses and florists about them retailing your product on the condition they show your signage, which will give you exposure, and give them a specialized product that is mostly unavailable elsewhere, thereby building your name and reputation over time with very little risk to you.
