I'd like to buy trees instead of Christmas cards this year. I know Oxfam did something similar last year but they aren't this time around. Does anyone know where I can do this online?

  1. That's a great idea! There are many adopt-a-tree programs posted on the web. Just check them out to get started. :)

  2. Try

    http://www.tree-shop.co.uk/

  3. you will struggle getting the trees in the envelopes!!! maybe worth checking with post office.

  4. Good.  If only half the population of our delicate world could adopt such ideas relating to protection, preservation and maintenance of our natural resources, our dear world will be a wonderful place to live in.  You can also start a group of like-minded citizens, go round your area, find out who is interested in getting a sapling planted in their yard and that they will take care of it for life, contact the authorities, get free saplings, make the community participate in planting them, invite celebrities to do the planting and enjoy the benefits.  Soil is becoming dearer and it will be better to select fruit bearing or herbal saplings to plant instead of planting all and sundry flora that do not attract fauna.  All the best - let the good word and world spread its wings.

In Bangalore, India, we have got fully grown trees transplanted in other areas because we had to cut down those trees for expanding roads and for laying tracks for metro rail etc and happy to inform that they are blooming.

  5. That is such an interesting idea! I've never heard of that before! I'm not sure where to do that online, but good luck!

  6. This is a great gift idea.  I never know what to get my dad and stepmom.  I'm thinking this and a tin of homemade fudge or cookies.  Thanks for the idea.

  7. Why not really buy three apple trees and plant them in your garden? If you don't have room, buy them for your family or friends. You can buy ballerina ones that are tiny, they hardly take up any space.

Then each autumn you can give the fruit away to your family and friends. It provides habitat for flora and fauna, the blossom is beautiful, the fruit is pretty and they last for years.

Planting fruit or nut trees is one of the best ways to sequester CO2,  so you are helping in the fight against Global warming too. The investment is tiny, financially and physically once you have planted the trees, you just have to pick the fruit.

Fruit or nut trees are the gift that year after year, keeps on giving.
