Buying Car without title?

Question

I am buying a car from an individual who has a lien on a car. I've been waiting for over two weeks for the darn bank (located in Dallas) to ship the title to the bank in San Antonio. Frankly, im tired of waiting. I can only go saturday cause i work M-F which means i have to wait another week to get the car. Can the seller and I go to the bank, I Pay him the money, and he pays the bank, then he gives me the car. I will ask him to ship the title to me since i live 100 mile away from San Antonio. Is this Safe?? i mean i am walking away with the car. Also, i was thinking about recording him saying that he will sign the title to me when the title comes in to have documentation. Is this ok to do?? what bad things can happen. Thanks for all the reply.

It is very difficult to get a title and you sometimes cant.But,you can show what you have in the way of paperwork and file for a lost title.But if you dint have the owners signature on anything you are pretty much done.

Don't do it.  You have to read all the people who bought cars without title and regret it.

"Opening a can of worms is easy, getting them back in the can is difficult". Don't do it. He could sell the car again once he gets the title and you will be out of luck. he could even report it stolen. No paperwork, no money.

If you haven't seen the title, you don't know if it indeed belongs to the person collecting your cash.

If you haven't seen the title, you don't know a lot of things.

If you go with him to the bank, hand him a bunch of money, and he pays off the car, the bank will give him the title, at which point he can thank you and walk off with it, leaving you poorer and without a car.
