Buying my first betta fish?

I'm wanting to buy a male betta fish but I want to do a bit of research first. I have a 9 liter tank and a 20 liter tank, which would be best to use? Do I use a heater, filter or air pump? How often should I do water changes? I already have a freshwater water conditioner and treatment which eliminates ammonia and chlorine, reduces stress, adds a protective coat and guards with aloe vera. (it's an all in one treatment) Would this be fine to use?

If anyone could give me some tips on how to look after the fish and water conditions it would be much appreciated.

You should use the 20 liter, since you have it on hand.  That would be an ideal tank for him.  You do need a heater, to get the temperature between 24-28 degrees Celsius.  A filter would be good but isn't absolutely necessary, it just makes it easier on you the owner.  If you do get a filter, then get one that is low setting because strong filters can either stress the Betta or actually push him around.  With the filter, you can do water changes about once a week.  The only problem I see with your water conditioner is that it doesn't say anything about getting rid of chloramines, which is important.  You might look around and see if you can find one that does that in addition to the other things.  

When you decorate the tank, make sure you get either live or silk plants.  Plastic ones can rip the delicate fins of the Betta.

I would use a 20 litre tank.A filter and heater is requiered.You should siphon out the tank once a week and remove 20% of the water and then replace it.The first declorinator is fine.

It doesnt really matter. Bettas come from small spaces so either tank is fine. Personally i use a glass bowl. and I do a complete water change and the bettas are fine with it. Putting live plants in it is a GREAT idea. I put a spider plant baby in my betta bowl. Live plants provide shelter, oxygen, and even food. Yes thats right FOOD. no need for an air pump or heater. if you do a complete water change in a big tank like that than every 3 weeks is fine. All you need to add is dechlorinator and your set.

You have to check on the water quality every so often. make sure that the water is not blurry or has a lot of p**p or particles in it.

9=2 gallon

20= 5 gallon

Use the 20 liters.

Heater and filter.

25% water change weekly.

Water conditioner is fine alone, but your chemical seems a bit funky to treat all that in one and can be an overkill on good bacteria.

either tank is fine but a 20litre is way better

a filter is a good idea

a heater is needed

and an airpump is not nessasery as they breath air from the surface  

make sure you cycle the tank
